Writing blog content as part of your marketing strategy is a great idea. Everyone says so, right? Well, it’s hard to argue, blogging is a great strategy, even for a small business. But, it’s important to focus on writing blog content that is relevant to your customers. After all, it’s customers you’re trying to attract to your business by writing. Right? There’s little or no point in writing articles that interest your peers or competitors, but put your customers to sleep!

So, what to write about? How do you know what is relevant content? How do you know what a prospective customer wants to know? Great question, glad you asked!

Write content that answers the questions your customers ask you!

There’s a high probability that customers, and prospective customers alike, are asking you questions all the time. Questions about your services, products, fees, processes, etc… And, if they’re asking you, there’s a very high chance that other people are also searching for answers to the same questions. Makes sense, right?

So, if you take a moment to write an answer to each question in the form of a blog, or article, then you have taken a step in the right direction. Each answer that you document becomes a resource that:

  • helps your customers and potential customers alike
  • helps to establish you as a business worth dealing with
  • helps give you credibility as an expert in your field

And of course, if you have a relevant answer to a question that someone types into a search engine, then you are more than likely going to be matched to that question by the search engine. Once again, makes sense right?

In fact, that’s exactly what I’ve just done with this article. I’ve answered one of the most common questions I get about writing blogs. What to write about?

So, next time you’re on a call with a customer, and they ask you a question, write it down. Then, write the answer in an article and press publish!

Bonus Tip: Done is better than perfect! Don’t over think it, just do it!
